2Thessalonians
The Second Epistle Of The Thessalonians was written by Paul shortly after he wrote his first letter to them. The Thessalonians converts were "unsettled" and "alarmed," supposing, perhaps on the authority of a forged letter as from Paul, that the persecutions they were suffering were those of the "great and dreadful day of the Lord." From which they had been taught to expect deliverance at the day of Christ, that time of "our being gathered to him." The present letter, then, was written to instruct the Thessalonians Christians that "our being gathered to him [Christ]" will precede the Day of the Lord. First Thessalonians has more in view the translation of the Church; the second Epistle, "the day of the Lord" which will follow it.
