2Samuel

Second Samuel is occupied with the reign of David; the full record of his life extends from 1Samuel. First Samuel closes with the tragic death of Israel's first king, Saul; 2Samuel begins with an account of the strife that proceeded the establishment of the Davidic throne at Jerusalem. The book records David's military victories, his great sin, his flight at the time of Absalom's revolt, his return to Jerusalem, and his sin in numbering the people. Whereas the duration of the events in 1Samuel is not known precisely, 2Samuel covers a period of forty years.
